Now, I've never really read a Superman comic before, but I have a hard time understanding how anything involving him directly could be amazing instead of just boring. What's so good about this All-Star Superman?
Grant Morrison takes a Superman stripped of all continuity and just produces these single-issue stories with grandeur and heft and weird ideas that aren't just weird for weird's sake, but are used to try and dig down and find out the actual interesting stuff at the heart of this mythic character. Suddenly his superpowers inspire a sort of cinematic awe. The first issue starts with him going to save astronauts from a bomb on their spaceship -- a spaceship bound for the heart of the sun. It just gets bigger and awesomer from there. If there's anything worth saving about this boring-ass character, Grant Morrison has found it and written it an ode.
