Morning all!

Got out to that Scott Pilgrim preview last night, and well shit that was some good fun. In addition to it being highly enjoyable, the fun was heightened for me since it was set in and filmed in my old neighbourhood in Toronto. Afterwards I was thinking, much like I did after the Watchmen, what would that experience be for someone who knew nothing about the comic?

:rainbow: Grey out there. Will it rain too much for Manien to paint the window frames?
:coffee: Tim's
:skull: Woke up at 5:30AM and thought I could hear mosquitoes, and got all awake.

:jto: Hey, fellow Scott Pilgrim advance screener! I too saw it and the after party was even held on the 1st floor of the building my :drawing: is in. That meant I got to drink free booze, play classic arcade games & I just crashed at the studio when all was said & done.

:qotd: I was wondering that as well. I think :les: 's girlfriend Crystal saw both Watchmen and Scott Pilgrim before reading the comic & while she liked/tolerated the former, she didn't care for the latter. As for me, I enjoyed the movie more than the book, but the issue I have is that the character of Scott Pilgrim is a :peen: and I still had a hard time relating to him. I think if I just saw Scott Pilgrim instead of reading it first, I'd actually enjoy it more.

:food: Went to John's Cafe. Are pancakes vegan? How about sausages?
:coffee: Warming up some leftover stuff.
:drawing: FINISH HIM!
:rainbow: Typical overcast Portland summer.

:jcs: I was wondering if you would bother with the movie, seeing as the book didn't do it for you. Interesting that you liked the movie better, and to have the "Crystal Perspective". I would lean towards saying Scott Pilgrim is a bit of a :peen: , not a complete :peen:

Anyhow, I may end up seeing it again with Manien.

I should try and convince Nina to see this with me. For the most part she doesn't get comics and finds them difficult to read if it's not Calvin & Hobbes. Actually, when Cloudscape was fishing around for the next theme, I asked her what would be a theme that might attract her to picking the book up and her response was 'A comic for people who don't read comics!' This might actually say something about the comic industry in general.

I was wondering if Manien would enjoy it, as she has no video game background or anything. But I think there is a lot of fun and goofy stuff regardless?

I have had friends like this too, and to a mind seasoned by a lifetime of comics it is so hard to grasp! I mean, my younger brother doesn't really read comics, but he read and enjoyed the Scott Pilgrims.

One thing I did consider after he read them was: If I was to suggest something else to him, since he enjoyed this, what would be another fun goofy action romance comic to recommend?

I have not seen the Scott Pilgrim motion picture but plan to see Exit Through the Gift Shop tomorrow.

Went to the county fair on Saturday and looked at award-winning vegetables and quilts.

Working 10 hr days, 4 days a week. Tough on the feet but sweet for the three days off.

Sadly, having spent my youth as a diehard graffiti purist (no stencils, no stickers, just letters and characters) I don't think I'll see that one, despite the fact that it's probably interesting. Cut off my nose to spite my face.

We have banksy pieces in Brighton, now behind plexiglass. I do like the fact that street vendors make a lot of cash selling canvases of photos of his work; power to the people.

Forgot about this! Might catch it tomorrow after work. Thanks for the reminder.

:qotd: I forgot, did you guys like Sin City? We did quite a bit. Ol' Kate read the book POST move and enjoyed both.

:qotd: If the metacritic scores are anything to go by, so far, the non comic reader is not enjoying the film. (it's at 43 currently, though there are only five reviews)

I sort of liked Sin City as an experiment, but didn't really care for it as a film.

Jess has a terrible headache and we're meant to be going to a play tonight - so I hope that clears up! :C

:book: I have been reading lots of old Disney comics - issues of Mickey and Donald, mostly. I love em! Makes me want to make some new kids comics, which I haven't done in ages.
