In Swedish, February 29th is called Skottsdagen, so today we should celebrate everything :scott_r: ! Just a'cause.

Also, just for funky :turd: and giggles, we should celebrate the 300th anniversary of Sweden doing some really kinky stuff with the calendar.

That's all I got for today, though.

:rainbow: It is a slushy mess out there in North Van!

:drawing: Finished inking and colouring a page, so that was good.
:skull: Then stayed up a little too late. But I'm feeling fairly hyper this morning regardless.
:coffee: Give give give me more more more!

:book: As I get 3/4 or more through the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I get curious how they made it into that dark and gritty movie I watched the trailer for. Since 2/3 of the book is pretty laid back, dude in the country researching, staying in a rustic cabin. In the summer mostly.

:qotd: Are there any movies you're looking forward to coming up?
:qotd: :qotd: What would be some good Leap Day/Scott's Day traditions? The only one I saw was that ladies can ask the fellas to marry them.

:qotd: :qotd: This is from an article about winter solstice celebrations, but it would seem like a good template for the Leap Day.

timeanddate wrote:
...was characterized by the suspension of discipline and reversal of the usual order. Grudges and quarrels were forgotten while businesses, courts and schools were closed. Wars were interrupted or postponed and slaves were served by their masters. Masquerades often occurred during this time.

...A mock king was chosen, usually from a group of slaves or criminals, and although he was permitted to behave in an unrestrained manner for seven days of the festival, he was usually killed at the end. The Saturnalia eventually degenerated into a week-long spree of debauchery and crime – giving rise to the modern use of the tern saturnalia, meaning a period of unrestrained license and revelry.

Okay maybe the last part is going too far. But revelry and reversal of the normal order! How about getting the day off work at least?

:scott_r: Day! I like the funky jive you be putting down there :skinner: .

My day started out a little rough, but kept in with :jto: 's proposed template. The fire alarm went off at about 3:30am so I hastily dressed and stood in the foyer while strata people figured out that some jerks had tried to break into the electrical room, then some storage lockers, but succeeded at neither and pulled the fire alarm on their way out of the building. Back in bed by 4am, but had trouble sleeping after that. :skull:

:turd: & is such an odd term. according to the wicktionary, it's a vulgarized version of 'kicks and giggles' which means 'amusement without any serious purpose; fun.' Well now I know, and knowing is half the battle. Yo Joe!

:qotd: The only one I'm really excited about is Brave. It looks gorgeous and just might have a story that appeals more to adults than kids, I haven't seen one anthropomorphic sidekick in the trailers yet.

:rainbow: Not a snowflake to be seen in Langleyland. Weird.

There's some radio ads for Canada's Got Talent that have motivated me more than ever to not watch the show. Sadly it features Martin Short and some opera singer, both of which are super talented, but the 'bit' they do is painful to listen to.

:qotd: :qotd: I like the first bit of the solstice idea. Everything should be closed, even the 7 eleven's. Everyone except essential services, but they get to wear anything they want to work that day and only have to work a four hour shift. The internet should be shut off for the day too. Then everyone gets together for fun, food and revelry.

:qotd: :qotd: As a more practical option, I'm a big fan of the wearing yellow and blue as put forth by 30 Rock. There's very few holidays left in western culture that have wardrobe mandates, and I always think it looks so fun when you see a large group of people all trying to work on the same theme.

Sort of related to this and the other :qotd: : Today Audible has a bunch of books that are two for one credit, which would definitely be an awesome tradition for them to keep up. One of the books I got was The Hunger Games. I'm not sure if it's really my thing or not, so I can't say if I'm excited for the movie, but I'd heard good things about it, and the audiobook version in particular, so this seemed like a good opportunity to try it out.

The nice thing about leap year is it means my rent check will be a day less late than in would have been otherwise.

My friend, who is big on sci-fi, told me he was wary of this assuming it would be a cheap knock off of running man and I forget what else. But then he got through the whole series in a week.

:qotd: :qotd: I like the reversal. Particularly, as a shy person, I think the idea of girls asking out etc. is nice. When I was younger at summer camps every now and then they would have a special dance like that. I rarely got asked though.

:qotd: Definitely "Brave". I think the Avengers too. Oh, and Prometheus.

Yes, yes and yes!!!

:book: I have been meaning to read the Hunger Games. I was going to get the first book at the airport the last time I was heading to Toronto, but either they didn't have it or I missed the display, so I didn't.
